It's a cramped and exposed environment in an MRAP or HMMWV "turret".
Protection and visibility are very important. BAE received a contract in 2005 to provide more than 1,000 Marine Corps Transparent Armor Gun Shields (MCTAGS) kits and spares to support U.S. Marine Corps. An order for an additional 300 has been announced at a cost of $6 million.
MCTAGS are currently used on a variety of vehicles including the M113, HMMWV and MRAPS.
